Younger equids should be examined to ensure that deciduous teeth or "caps" have been lost.
Older horses should be examined annually or semi-annually for dental issues that can lead to discomfort, problems eating, choke or colic.
Common non urgent issues that horses face often involve respiratory conditions, metabolic conditions, body condition concerns, and lameness. Pre purchase examinations are also often a part of equine sales agreements. Ultrasounds are often done to assess reproductive or pregnancy status.
